A future ready approach to packaging and restaurants

Reducing our impact through conscious packaging choices

At McDonald’s Belgium, we are constantly looking for ways to reduce the environmental impact of our packaging. We take a step by step approach, making conscious choices that already make a difference today. As a result, almost all our packaging is made from renewable, recycled or certified materials. At the same time, we continue to actively reduce the amount of packaging we use and limit plastic wherever possible, through targeted adjustments. For example, paper straws are provided only on request and we use cutlery that is compostable at home.

Thanks to McDonald’s scale, innovative solutions can be implemented more broadly and more quickly. This enables us to take further, targeted steps towards lower impact packaging.

Restaurants ready for tomorrow

At McDonald’s Belgium, climate considerations play a role in every restaurant we build or renovate. Energy efficiency is our starting point, from smart infrastructure to innovative technologies that structurally reduce energy consumption and CO₂ emissions. Today, all our restaurants operate on 100% green energy from wind, water and solar power.

We also invest in solutions that help reduce energy and water consumption, including solar panels, heat pumps, heat recovery systems and rainwater harvesting. We go one step further with measures such as waterless urinals and smart systems that optimise overall consumption.

Mobility is evolving too. Most restaurants are now equipped with charging points for electric vehicles, and some even offer fast charging facilities.

By doing so, we continue to build restaurants that are ready for the future every day.
